Optimize decomposition: Monitor temperature to ensure your compost pile reaches and maintains the ideal range for microbial activity. Identify Hot Spots: Easily locate areas of high microbial activity in your compost pile. Troubleshoot problems: quickly diagnose problems such as insufficient humidity or poor ventilation based on temperature readings. Track progress: Follow the temperature curve of your compost pile to determine when it is ready to use. Ensure Pathogen Killing: Check that your compost reaches temperatures high enough to kill harmful pathogens.
The compost thermometer uses a bimetallic strip mechanism. As the temperature changes, the strip expands or contracts, moving the needle on the dial. This simple but effective design ensures accurate readings without the need for harmful substances or electronic components.
Insert the probe into the center of your compost pile, making sure at least 2/3 of the stem is submerged. Wait 30 to 60 seconds for the temperature to stabilize. Read the temperature on the large, clear dial. Clean the probe after each use with a damp cloth.
